600-series Touch & Sew

600 / 603  / 604  Touch & Sew

Household sewing machine.  Slant needle, wind-in-place Touch & Sew bobbin, horizontal mount thread spool.  AKA "Auto-Reel" on the earliest production models.  Series included the fully automatic 600, the semi-automatic 603 and straight-stitch only 604.  Models with an "E" have chain stitch feature.  Manufactured at Elizabethport, New Jersey.
Singer 600e Auto-Reel. Fully automatic zig-zag machine with Special Disc compartment for additional patterns.
Signer 603 Touch & Sew. Semi-automatic machine requires Special Discs for zig-zag and decorative stitching.
604 Auto Reel - straight-stitch only
NOTE:   600 & 603 are described here as heavy duty because many have the same steel gears as the 401 and 500.  We've seen steel gears on a number of early production 600 series Touch & Sew models (600, 603 ,626 ,648) but there are no guarantees.  It's a good idea to remove the bottom cover and check the gears before buying any Touch and Sew.  Black plastic gears are prone to cracking with age.  White nylon gears are better than black plastic, but don't hold up like the original steel gears.
